Players who choose the Ironman Game Mode are restricted by the following rules:

  • Ironmen cannot Trade.
  • Ironmen cannot join or form parties.
  • Ironmen cannot receive aid; Healing and buffs.
  • Ironmen cannot loot or pick up items from another players kill.
  • Ironmen cannot loot or pick up items another player drops.

Overview

Early-game

As an Ironman, players must do everything and acquire everything themselves. Due to this, there are some recommendations of focuses when starting out:

After unlocking all possible Professions, it is time to move on to working on the main quest line on The Solitary Isles (SI for short). Please see Questing for a more thorough walkthrough.

It is common for the player to get to to an average of lv. 10-15 in most Professions and Combat before leaving SI.

Early Profession Training

Most Professions will unlock new recipes or material tiers in 5 level increments. The player is able to force gathering and crafting with higher tier materials with a reduced chance of success. Example; At level 5 Alchemy, the play has about a 20% chance of success on crafting a T3 Potion/Elixir. As the player levels up, this success rate will also increase till level 10 where it will be a 100% chance of success for T3.

  • Exceptions to the "rules":
    • Trading - New recipes are unlocked in 10 level increments instead of 5s.
    • Fishing - To catch new tiers of fish, an appropriate tier of fishing rod is needed. Example; catching T4 fish requires a T4 fishing rod.

Herbalism

Herbalism will encompass gather materials for used in Alchemy, Cooking, and Tailoring. The first few levels will be focused on gathering the following:

Early levels for Herbalism will go fast due to the sheer amount of fiber and herbs needed for other crafting professions. It is recommended to focus on gathering more hemp in these levels to help with Tailoring as Alchemy has better early level options than potions.

After hitting lv. 5, the player has a 100% success rate of gathering T2 materials. Similar to the previous section, it is recommended to focus on gather more fiber than herbs to work on Tailoring.

It is still worth collecting any and all herbs that the player comes across as these are heavily needed for the entirity of Alchemy and Cooking. It never hurts to have too many.

Once the player hits lv. 10 the player has access to Cotton, the T3 fiber. This can be found primarily on The Scorching Plains, or on the mainland of Irumesa. Due to better gathering locations on the mainland, it is recommended to focus mainly on herbs till the player arrives on Irumesa.

Irumesa

After completing the main quest line for The Solitary Isles, the player will have access to traveling to Irumesa via a boat in Seaholm Village by talking with Dorian Black. Before leaving the Solitary Isles, please make sure to speak to Victor Reinsgart, the Disciple Mage, located near the Tailoring trainer in Farwood Town, to obtain the Leyline Stone and Leyline Rune for Farwood Town and The Cobalt Tower. Without these, traveling back to SI is difficult/tedious.

When taking the boat the player will arrive in the northern docks of Edrivine, the largest city in Irumesa. Once arriving head to the south western corner of the city to get to the Edrivine Leyline Circle. While here, not far west down the same road the Leyline Circle is on, the player will find Van, the NPC that unlocks the Monster Hunting Profession.
